The Petit Couronne Refinery
The Petit Couronne Refinery is situated on a 225-hectare site located about 130 kilometres northwest of Paris on the River Seine. The site has a total throughput capacity of approximately 161,800 barrels per day. It was originally constructed in 1929 and was acquired by Petroplus in 2008.
Product Supply and Distribution
The refinery receives its crude oil via pipeline from the marine facilities in Le Havre and has ready access to a broad range of product distribution avenues. Petit Couronne supplies the majority of its fuel products to major customers in the northwest of France, by a combination of pipeline, rail, barge, and road truck deliveries (from the adjacent bulk terminal). It is connected to the TRAPIL pipeline, which is connected to several product storage terminals that supply the greater Paris area. Other products, base oils and bitumen are also shipped by road and sea.
Technical aspects
The site is an atmospheric/ vacuum distillation refinery with visbreaking, thermal and fluid catalytic cracking capabilities, including bitumen and lube oil manufacturing. It can process a range of sour and sweet crude oils. The Petit Couronne Refinery has a Nelson Complexity of 7.3.
